The surgeons and staff at Tarantino Cho Eye Center will work with you to decide if and when your cataracts can be removed. We will also work with you to determine which lens will meet your visual needs and wants following the procedure. This is a personal decision and we will help to guide you thought the process.
Dr. Cho and Dr. Tarantino offer several types of lenses. Each of them is designed for a specific corrective function.
In the past, lens implants were used for basic vision correction. The goal was to correct distance vision as best as possible using a single-focus lens.
Today… things have changed. We offer the very latest in presbyopia correction and toric lenses that can improve your vision at a variety of distances all at once.
This means you can significantly reduce your need for glasses following your procedure.
- Extended Depth of Focus Lens: Designed to give you the best distance and intermediate (computer/dashboard) vision while providing less dependence on glasses for reading after surgery. You may need readers that you can purchase over-the-counter.
- Toric Lens (Astigmatism Correcting): An astigmatism correcting implant addresses corneal astigmatism so that distance vision is corrected after cataract surgery without glasses. If you have astigmatism and choose the standard lens (below), glasses are still necessary to see at all distances.
- Single-Focus Lens (Standard): The single-focus lens is effective in providing brighter vision. If you receive a single-focus lens, the focus will likely be set for distance, and you will regain your ability to see objects that are far away unless you have astigmatism. If you have astigmatism the standard lens will likely not provide crisp distance vision. After surgery, patients will likely need to wear corrective lenses, especially for activities like reading and driving.
We look forward to meeting with you to determine your “visual needs and wants” following cataract surgery.
